I have been trying to work on our house over 3 years now. To tell you that it has been stressful is a huge understatement. I know, I know. First world problems. But hey, it was still driving me insane. See when Andy and I first moved into this house, we started from scratch. We had misc. furniture and rugs and such from our college days & the house was a new build, so we were it's first occupants. But that meant we were given, boring all white walls and brown ugly standard trim and ZERO landscaping. I had and still do have my hands full. Our grass was crap. Still is. We tried to plant trees along the front deck & nothing would survive. There were zero nutrients in the "sand" the builder used as a filler. I feel like the drug house on the block. We live in a very sought after neighborhood in Marquette, and that means it comes with perfect house with perfect yards. Yeah. I do not have a green thumb. We are slowly making our way to have a nice yard. After 3 years. We planted daffodils and tulips around the mailbox and in a couple other places & we laid down woodchips around the trees. And then the city ripped it all up. Oh yes. They decided to put a sidewalk in front of our house to connect a new road extention a block over to our neighborhood. We are the only yard the sidewalk goes through. They ripped up all of the grass and flowers around our mailbox, and put the sidewalk in RIGHT next to the trees in the yard.. that means... bye bye woodchips. And the best part? They don't replace any of it. We are just out the work & money.
Thanks City Development. not really.
So now we have taken it upon us to till up the front yard and lay down straw and grass seed to fill in the bad spots. Also, we are bringing in dirt and putting in pavers and I ordered shutters for the outside windows. I am so excited to actually feel like we are getting somewhere with this house. This winter's projects are, finish changing out the trim to white, finish part of the basement, and do some upgrades in the house. That will start with my new rug that I just ordered last week. Did I mention that I've been looking for a rug for over a year?? I can't tell you how excited I am to get it!
Wish us luck.
